Dog Gear Sizing Guide

Good fit starts with a tape measure, not a breed guess.

Always use the product-specific size information shown on the item you are buying. The guidance below explains how to take the most common measurements.

Harnesses

Chest girth: Measure around the widest part of your dog’s ribcage, usually just behind the front legs. Keep the tape comfortably snug rather than pulling it tight.

Neck: Measure around the lower neck where the harness naturally sits, not high behind the ears.

Collars

Measure around the part of the neck where the collar normally sits. You should be able to fit approximately two fingers between the collar and the dog once fitted, unless the product instructions specify otherwise.

Dog boots

Have your dog stand normally on a sheet of paper so the paw is bearing weight. Measure the widest point of the paw and, where the product chart requires it, the paw length. Measure both front and rear paws because they can differ.

Muzzles

Follow the product-specific measurement points carefully. A correctly fitted muzzle must not prevent normal breathing or safe temperature regulation. Your dog needs appropriate room to pant where the muzzle design is intended to allow it.

When your dog is between sizes

Do not automatically size up or down based only on breed or body weight. Use the product’s own size chart and consider the adjustment range. If you are unsure, contact BarkBoot before ordering and include the measurements you took.

Check the fit before heading out

After fitting any wearable gear, check for rubbing, pinching, excessive movement or pressure. Introduce unfamiliar equipment gradually and re-check straps and hardware before higher-energy activity.
